The Environmental Professionals' Organization of Connecticut (EPOC) invites you to attend the following seminar: Aquifer Behavior and Testing To register, see form at the bottom of this page. This seminar was previously offered by EPOC on 1/21/03 and is the same course (CTLEP-119). Per CT LEP regulations, if you previously took this class AND claimed in for CT LEP credits (even for a different renewal period), you cannot claim the class for credits again. The Connecticut State Board of Examiners of Environmental Professionals has approved this course for 8.0 hours of continuing education credits (CTLEP-119). The MA LSP Board has approved this course for 8 hours of non-regulatory credits (course # 1227). This course has also been approved for NY State PE Credits - 8 PDH(s). COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course provides participants with a theoretical and a practical familiarity with the basic methodologies used to:
These methodologies are critically important in the design of groundwater "pump and treat" systems, in situ soil and groundwater treatment systems, and treated groundwater reinjection facilities. They are also becoming increasingly important in the evaluation of monitored natural attenuation proposals where precise determination of groundwater flow velocity is critical. The course covers methodologies applicable to confined, semi-confined, and unconfined aquifers. Also presented are the practical aspects of performing an aquifer test to ensure acquisition of high quality data and the pre-processing steps necessary to filter out the effects of barometric pressure changes, tidal fluctuations, and water level trends. The course also includes an introductory discussion of aquifer testing methodologies designed specifically for fractured rock aquifers. The course also discusses the applicability of tracer testing in conjunction with aquifer testing to measure the effective porosity of fractured rock formations--another crucial parameter in determining groundwater flow velocities in the fractured rock regimes so common in New England. INSTRUCTOR: Robert D. Mutch, Jr., P.Hg., P.E. is President and Principal Groundwater Hydrologist of Mutch Associates, LLC. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University and at Manhattan College where he has taught graduate courses in hydrogeology and groundwater modeling since 1991. Mr. Mutch holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in civil engineering and has 30 years of experience in hydrogeologic investigation, aquifer testing, numerical modeling of groundwater flow and contaminant transport, fractured rock hydrogeology, and DNAPL behavior. Prior to founding Mutch Associates, LLC in 2009, Mr. Mutch served as Executive Vice president and Principal Groundwater Hydrologist at HydroQual, Inc and, prior to that, as President and CEO of ECKENFELDER INC. Mr. Mutch is a licensed professional engineer in several states and has been certified by the American Institute of Hydrology as a Professional Hydrogeologist. Mr. Mutch has taught over 100 training courses on hydrogeology and remediation of waste disposal sites in this country, Europe and Australia for various universities and organizations, including Vanderbilt University, University of Florida, the National Hazardous Materials Training Center, Environmental Education Enterprises, and the Center for Professional Advancement. FEE AND LOCATION: The fee for this seminar is $225 for EPOC Members and $275 for non-members. Government employee and student rates are available - contact Seth Molofsky at EPOC for further information. If you wish, you can join or renew your EPOC membership now and pay the member rate for this program. For membership information, CLICK HERE. The program will be held at in Seminar Hall at Rensselaer at Hartford - (275 Windsor St., Hartford, CT, phone: 860-548-2400).
