Duties
The Field Superintendent's principal duty is to daily oversee the Subcontractor(s)’s field work, crews and equipment to ensure production is accomplished in an effective, safe manner and in accordance with the drawings and specifications. The following are specific daily or routine activities performed by the Field Superintendent.
· Assist the Subcontractor(s)’s Field Superintendent(s) with set up the job office and equipment trailers and ensure that permits, labor notices, safety rules and regulations, and E.E.O.C. materials are posted in a conspicuous place.
· Confirm that the safety and environmental regulations are followed by MACTEC personnel and Subcontractor crews.
· Have a thorough knowledge of the drawings, specifications, and health and safety plans (including Job Hazard Analyses) for each project assigned, and ensure that the Subcontractors execute their work in accordance with these project documents.
· Make sure that good housekeeping practices are observed and maintained by Subcontractors.
· Attend and/or run daily health and safety meetings
· Assist the Project Engineer in tracking project completion, schedule and costs.
· Walk down project site at completion of day’s work to ensure equipment and “as-left” conditions are in secure condition.
· Work with the Subcontractor(s)’s Field Superintendent(s) to resolve field execution problems.
· Draft a daily Superintendent's report and submit to Project Engineer for inclusion in the Daily Project report to Client.
· Ensure that all work included in change orders is properly executed as specified in the Project’s Change Order Forms signed by Client and Subcontractor.
· Review Subcontractor crew attendance each morning and afternoon.
· Attend pre-construction and construction meetings, taking notes on areas that may present a future problem and present to the Project Engineer and Project Manager for consideration.
· Work as liaison with inspectors; architects; MACTEC personnel; and local, state and Federal regulatory officials when these individuals require access to site work areas.
· Attend, on request, all technical meetingsfor the purpose of discussing job progress and problem areas.
· Assist Project Engineer in providing estimates of percent completion for monthly invoicing and prepare for Project Manager’s signature review and approval letters to client for subcontractor work.
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience
· Educational and experience requirements include at least 4-year engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.
· Minimum of 6 years of construction experience; minimum of 3 years in a supervisory capacity.
· Building demolition and asbestos experience.
· Advanced knowledge of various construction disciplines, union agreements/jurisdiction, safety regulations, scheduling, cost control, engineering drawings and other documents, plus ability to supervise and evaluate craft performance is essential.
· Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
· Valid driver's license is required
· Drug screen, background check, and social security number verification.
· Physical exam is required to obtain medical clearance.
· Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required.
· Field activities may require working in unfavorable weather conditions
· Ability to lift 50 pounds.
